Lost and Found

CAC is contracted with the City of Coeur d'Alene, the City of Rathdrum, and Kootenai County to receive the stray/lost dogs picked up by Animal Control. These stray/lost dogs have 5 days to be claimed by their owners, upon the 6th day the dogs become the property of CAC and at this time they will be put up for adoption

Please take time to view the Lost Pet, Found Pet, and Found Cat pages for valuable resources, or continue scrolling to the bottom of the page!!

Lost Pets in the Kootenai County Area

Tragically, many will never be reunited with their families as they have no identification to speak for them. Before the unexpected happens, CAC recommends that dogs and cats have two points of protection, a collar with ID tag (and required licensing) and a microchip (with current information).

We want you to be reunited with your pet! It is critical to check local shelters in person for your missing dog or cat. It may take only a few hours or up to several weeks for an animal to be taken to a shelter. It is very important to check often for your animal and most of all, don't give up!

CAC is not contracted with the City of Post Falls, so any animals running at large in the city limits of Post Falls will be taken to the Post Falls Animal Control Facility 208.773.3517.

If you have lost your dog, please call Animal Control for your area and report your dog missing. You can call CAC at 208.772.4019 and leave a message with a complete description of your dog (or cat), where and when it was lost, and who to contact; Or add it to 24petconnects data base where it can be viewed by those in our community https://24petconnect.com/.

If you have found a dog...

Please contact Animal Control for your area. Unfortunately, CAC is not able to accept lost/found dogs and can only do so when we receive them directly from Animal Control. We are more than happy to scan a lost/found dog or cat for a microchip and provide the necessary phone numbers for you to contact Animal Control. View resources below or on our "Found Pet" page.

If you would prefer to keep the animal and try to locate the owner yourself, you need to contact Animal Control, have the animal scanned for a microchip, and file a found report with area shelters. You can also run a free ad in the local papers, post a flyer at our Adoption Center, do a visitor post on our Facebook page, and/or join any of the Lost/Found Animal groups on Facebook.
