Public hours are Tue-Sat 12-6 pm, Sun 12-4 pm, Closed Mondays.

Please remember, adoptions are by appointment only.

• You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt.

• Take some time to view our available pets on our Adopt page or stop in for a walk through. 

• Once you have decided on the pet/s you are interested in meeting, complete/submit our Pre-Adoption Questionnaire.  (Questionnaires are reviewed by our animal care techs. If your questionnaire is approved, a CAC team member will be in touch to discuss the pet's needs and whether the pet listed will be a good fit for your lifestyle. (Even though you may see an animal on the website or in person they could already have adoption appointments.)

• If it has been decided to move ahead with an in-person meeting, an appointment will be scheduled.

• At your adoption appointment, if after meeting with the animal you decide not to adopt it, if time allows, we will do what we can to introduce you to another animal we think might be a good match.

• During public walk-thru days, if you see a pet you are interested in meeting, our staff will assist you in setting up an appointment.  If you see an animal at the Center and it is not listed on the website, it is not currently available. 

• Kitten Adoptions - To allow for all kittens to find homes we can not reserve/hold specific kittens for adoption appointments. At the time of your appointment, you will have the opportunity to meet all of the kittens that are available for adoption at that time.

 Please note:

• Not all questionnaires will end up with an adoption appointment.
  
• We'll reach out to potential adopters with one call. If we miss you, expect a voicemail, and please return our call promptly. If there are multiple requests for the same pet and we can't reach you, we'll move on to the next questionnaire. Our aim is to ensure our animals don't miss a chance to find new homes. Thank you for your cooperation!
  
• We are not able to keep requests lists. If there is a particular type of pet you are looking for please check our website frequently.
• Cat adoptions are for indoor cats only
  
• Our dedicated staff may take up to a week to reach out regarding your pet adoption application. With a small team, we're working hard to manage the influx of questionnaires. If you haven't heard from us in over a week, please send us an email adoption@companionsanimalcenter.org or call 208.772.4019. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

*Please be mindful that missed or last-minute canceled appointments impact our animals' adoption process. Your commitment to scheduled appointments greatly helps in finding them loving homes. Thank you!

Other things to know...

Pet Meets: We do require dog-to-dog meet and greets with any canine siblings. If you intend to adopt the day you come for your scheduled appointment, bring your dog/s with you. 

We Require Landlord Approval: If you rent, bring a copy of your rental agreement and proof of pet deposit. Have this information ready prior to coming to your scheduled appointment. We can contact your property manager by telephone but we will not hold the pet if we have to wait for a return call.

Pet Hold Policy: If the pet you are going to adopt is not currently ‘Available’ for adoption, you can place a $25 non-refundable hold on that pet. As soon as the pet is made ‘Available’ you will be contacted to come in and finish up the adoption process. The $25 deposit will be applied to the adoption fee. Should you change your mind and decide not to complete the adoption, the $25 will be kept as a donation.
